He texts me every day but never makes plans

4 min read

He's in your phone from morning to night: good morning texts, memes, long threads. But the week goes by and he never actually asks to see you. If the attention feels great and the plans never come, here's what's usually going on.

Attention is cheap, effort is not

Texting all day costs him almost nothing. He can do it from the couch, between other things, while keeping every option open. A plan costs time, intention, and a little risk. When someone gives you endless attention but no effort, the attention is often the whole point: it keeps you engaged without him having to commit to anything real.

Why he keeps it to texts

Usually one of a few reasons: he likes the ego boost of your attention, he's keeping you as an option while he sorts out something (or someone) else, or he genuinely likes you but is comfortable and unmotivated because you never ask for more. The texting alone can't tell you which. What happens when you stop carrying it will.

The test

Stop being the one who keeps the thread alive. Reply warmly but don't fill every silence, and don't hint for a plan, just leave room for him to make one. A guy who wants to see you starts suggesting it. A guy who only wanted the attention lets the texting quietly fade, and that answer is just as useful.

Your move

You don't have to end it dramatically or send a paragraph. Just stop pouring in more than you get back, and watch what he does with the space. It helps to jot down when he actually proposed a real plan versus when he only kept you texting, because written down over a few weeks the pattern gets very hard to argue with. If the plans never come, that isn't a maybe, that's your answer.
