He watches my stories but never texts

4 min read

He's always near the top of your viewers. Every story watched within minutes. But your messages? Silence. If he's happy to watch your life but never says a word, here's what's usually going on.

Watching is passive, texting is a choice

Tapping through your stories costs him nothing and commits him to nothing. It's a way to stay near you and keep tabs without ever putting himself on the line. A text, even a small one, is a decision to actually engage. When someone only ever watches, they're choosing the version of you that asks nothing of them.

Why he keeps it to a view

Usually one of a few things: he likes the low-stakes closeness, he's keeping the door propped open in case he wants to walk back through it later, or he's interested but too unsure or too comfortable to act. Watching lets him keep a foot in your world while risking none of himself.

Should you post 'for' him? No.

It's tempting to start curating your stories hoping he'll finally bite. Don't hand him that much power over what you share. Post for you. If something happens to nudge him into your messages, fine, but the goal is to stop performing for a silent audience of one.

The kind truth

Someone who actually wants to talk to you will talk to you. A view is not a conversation, and attention you have to piece together from a viewer list is not the same as interest you can feel. Keep a quiet note of whether he ever crosses from watching to reaching out, because that line is the whole answer. You deserve someone who says hi, not someone who just lurks.
